Sci. major, Marshall University 1\/24-12\/25. Surya conducted his thesis research on the pharmacology of disulfiram analogs as an antimicrobial agent (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.proquest.com\/docview\/3272532167?sourcetype=Dissertations%20&amp;%20Theses\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.proquest.com\/docview\/3272532167?sourcetype=Dissertations%20&amp;%20Theses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>). Her data contributed to a 2025 publication in <em>Scientific Reports<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-025-00078-3\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-025-00078-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Hayden Hess, B.S. Biology major, West Virginia Wesleyan College 5\/22-7\/22. Hayden evaluated the antimicrobial properties of dronedarone (Maltaq) for his WV-INBRE project. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Hasitha Chavva, Research Associate, 1\/22-8\/22. Hasitha conducted pharmacodynamic and mechanistic studies on disulfiram as an antibiotic adjuvant. Her research contributed to publications in <em>Front. Microbiol<\/em>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fmicb.2022.1092257\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>) and <em>Scientific Reports<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-025-00078-3\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-025-00078-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Yogesh Meka, M.S. Pharm. Sci. major, Marshall University 8\/21-4\/23. Hannah evaluated the effect of copper supplementation on the antifungal activity of disulfiram and her data contributed to a 2022 publication in <em>Medical Mycology<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/mmy\/advance-article\/doi\/10.1093\/mmy\/myac016\/6533519\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Claire Shanholtzer, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University 8\/20-5\/21. Claire evaluated the effect of copper supplementation on the antifungal activity of disulfiram against fluconazole-resistant Candida. She presented a poster at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December 2021 and her research resulted in a first author publication in <em>Medical Mycology<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/mmy\/advance-article\/doi\/10.1093\/mmy\/myac016\/6533519\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Cameron Rice, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University, 7\/20-8\/20. Cameron evaluated the effect of copper supplementation on the antimicrobial activity of disulfiram. She presented and coauthored two posters at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting in December 2021. Chemical Sciences major, Marshall University. Kaitlyn completed her Capstone Research project on the synthesis of dithioperoxoates as antibacterial agents. Her work contributed to a 2025 publication in <em>Pathogens<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2076-0817\/14\/9\/878\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-025-00078-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Taylor Riedel, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University, 1\/20-3\/20. Taylor worked on the evaluation of novel disulfides based on the disulfiram thiuram pharmacophore that were discovered to sensitize MRSA to fosfomycin by inhibition of bacillithiol. Her research resulted in a coauthored publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41429-022-00500-2\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41429-022-00500-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Alex Lewis, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University, 1\/20-3\/20. Denise received an Undergraduate Creative Discovery and Research Scholar Award from the Office of the Vice President for Research to complete her capstone research in the lab.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Jonah Moore, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University 3\/18-4\/18. During his 5-week APPE rotation, Jonah worked on NASA EPSCoR-funded project testing non-antibiotic FDA-approved drug and disulfiram metabolites as anti-MRSA drugs. His research resulted in two publications in scientific journals (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2213716520300783?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/30160334\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Tiffany Kummer, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University, 1\/18-8\/18. Tiffany worked on the evaluation of non-antibiotic FDA-approved drugs as anti-MRSA drugs. Her research resulted in a coauthored publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2213716520300783?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>) and a poster presentation at the 2018 ASHP Midyear Meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Michaela Meakin, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University 1\/18-8\/18. Michaela worked on a NASA EPSCoR-funded project testing non-antibiotic FDA-approved drugs as anti-MRSA drugs. She received a MUSOP summer research fellowship to continue work on the project. Her research resulted in a coauthored publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2213716520300783?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>) and a poster presentation at the 2018 ASHP Midyear Meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mikaela Earl, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University 1\/18-11\/18. Mikaela worked on a NASA EPSCoR-funded project testing non-antibiotic FDA-approved drugs as anti-MRSA drugs. Mikaela received a MUSOP summer research fellowship to continue work on the project and her research resulted in a coauthor publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2213716520300783?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Keely Frazier, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University 5\/17-7\/17. Keely received a MUSOP summer research fellowship to evaluate the antibacterial activity of disulfiram and metabolites. She also performed synergy and biofilm dispersal studies for her summer project. Her research has resulted in two published manuscripts and one poster presentation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/30160334\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29571571\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Jordan Shepherd, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University, 5\/16-8\/17. Jordan performed research on thiolated antibiotics. He conducted experiments to synthesize and test the antibacterial properties of the compounds. His research has resulted in three peer-reviewed articles and two conference presentations (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29126733\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/29571571\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/27756563\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Lexie Keding, Ph.D. research rotation student, Biomedical Sciences, Marshall University, 08\/15. Lexie developed a microdiffusion assay to predict antibiotic biofilm penetration that resulted in one publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0960894X16300129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Demetria Lewis, Pharm.D. major, Marshall University, 7\/15-8\/15. Demi performed lab research during an APPE rotation on the synthesis and antibacterial testing the fluoroquinolones. She co-authored an article in <em>Bioorg. Med. Chem. Lett.<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0960894X16300129\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>) and presented a poster on her research at the 2015 ASHP Midyear Meeting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Eric Slayton, Pharm.D.\/M.P.H. major, Marshall University, 05\/14-08\/14. Eric worked the synthesis of isocyanate antibiotics. In 2016, he coauthored a review article on antibiotics in clinical trials for CDAD (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/14787210.2016.1211931?journalCode=ierz20\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/14787210.2016.1211931?journalCode=ierz20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Patricia Mihm, B.S. Chemistry major, Marshall University, 01\/14-12\/14. Patricia worked on the synthesis of peptide antibiotics for her capstone research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Emily Hanson, Pharm.D. major, University of Georgia, 01\/12 to 04\/12. Emily worked on a new method to synthesize naphthoquinones and her research resulted in one coauthored publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thieme-connect.com\/products\/ejournals\/abstract\/10.1055\/s-0032-1317113\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Ali Altharawi, M.S. Pharm &amp; Biomed Sci major , University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy, (03\/12 to 05\/13) Thesis entitled \u201cDesign and Synthesis of NADH Mimics that Target Mitochondrial Electron Transport of Plasmodium Parasites&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/getd.libs.uga.edu\/pdfs\/altharawi_ali_i_201308_ms.pdf\">link<\/a>) resulted in one publication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">John Taliaferro, B.S. Biology major, CURO Honors student, University of Georgia, 08\/08 to 05\/10. John worked on the synthesis of haloenol lactones as anticancer drugs and his research resulted in one coauthored publication (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0960894X12006415?via%3Dihub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">link<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Xiao (Adrian) Lu, Ph.D. Pharm &amp; Biomed Sci major (01\/08 to 08\/12). Adrian&#8217;s dissertation titled \u201cThe Design and Synthesis of Heteroatom-Containing Small Molecule for the Chemotherapy of Infectious Diseases\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/getd.libs.uga.edu\/pdfs\/lu_xiao_201208_phd.pdf\">link<\/a>) resulted in six publications. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sravan Kumar Patel, M.S. Pharm &amp; Biomed Sci major, University of Georgia, College of Pharmacy, &nbsp;(01\/08 to 07\/09).
